Released back in May 2010, Metropia presents us a grim vision of a future reality where european cities are connected by an underground metro system and call center jobs are not what you’re used to, trust me.
I don’t want to give anything away about the plot because I think Metropia totally deserves your attention, especially if you are even remotely interested in sci-fi, alternative worlds, conspiracies, and visions from the future. Or if you love/hate Hello Kitty.
What I will say is that it is an european production co-produced by Lars Von Trier’s Zentropa, it has been made with a low 3 million euros budget, it’s a pleasure to watch and its plot is not obvious.
Here’s the imdb page (don’t trust them about the rating) and here’s the torrent. Enjoy!

Space and time are approximations. There are infinite dimensions, which we bring down to 3+1 for a remote chance of any understanding of what goes on around us.
We are non-local entities. No space and no time. We are a point in the hologram, containing the whole structure, both the visible and the invisible.
We live multiple life experiences at the same time; like a radio, we receive signals. When we live in a “rich” environment which doesn’t require us to fight for food and shelter and all those basic needs, we develop an obvious boredom for all things human and material. It is at this point that our radio receiver “widens” its spectrum.
We can see our most intimate spaced, invaded by “alien” presences.
I just can’t get enough of Philip K. Dick. To me, he is a constant source of amazement, ideas, concepts. I simply feel very close to him, if I had to go on a desert island I would definitely bring his books with me. He has a special gift for serving his readers tasty philosophical dishes dressed with a delicious pop sci-fi dressing. Try it and be amazed.
Right now I just finished reading The Man on the High Castle (one of his finest books) and I’m now reading The Crack in Space, a minor one yet very intriguing. In my opinion his best books are Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep? (aka Blade Runner), The Man in the High Castle, Ubik, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, VALIS. But really it’s not that easy to say, because even in minor novels or in short stories you can find that philosophical sparkle that can make your day.
It’s been a while since I last posted some music… so here I am with a few suggestions.
A couple of days ago I saw Caribou live… their latest album is very good, a great example of psychedelic dance music… and it sounds great live too. Grab them here. Then go see them live.
Another good finding (thanks to Thom Yorke’s post on Radiohead’s blog) is Gonjasufi, click to download the torrent. This guy has a great voice and plays something undefined… definitely not easy to describe, check out this tune and listen for yourself.
Finally, a few days ago I was lucky enough to see Los Natas live here in Milano. Wondering who’s Los Natas? They’re from Argentiva, they’re heavy, they’re psych, they’re the last (and best, and oldest probably) stoner band on earth. They play great emotional heavy music, I simply love them. Their latest album is called El Nuevo Orden de la Libertad… Grab them here.
walking in the fields, walking, I see, awake
yet still dreaming, a small shiver from a cold breeze, winds from nepal
then god appeared and gave us an undeserved gift
undeserved maybe, yet obvious
for the gift was a key;
a Key to a Door we had all seen before, but not dared go through;
Now the time has come – together we reach for the lock
our minds died
our hearts blossomed
then love ruled the earth
as i was walking the field, awake in the dream.
Yesterday I gave a new meaning to Christ’s crucifixion, thanks to Paul Levy and Jung’s theories.
According to Jung, the ego gets crucifixed, in an agonizing suspension between irreconcilable opposites.
This makes lots of sense, when you think of the allegory of Jesus, his pain, his torture, and finally, his crucifixion. Jesus is our ego, what we feel as ourselves in our everyday life. Life is a complex mechanism designed to slowly torture and crucify the ego so that opposites can meet in a painful yet needed act of will.
Seen from this point of view, the whole new testament can take on new meaning. If we stop thinking about Jesus as an actual person, and we start thinking Jesus is us (our egos) and his tale is… well just a tale, yet a special one, an informed one, where the primary character is us, can we then gather useful information about how to behave and what to expect?
This is an unusual post for this blog, but I thought it could be useful for people to group my favourite gadgets in one post… micosoft’s website is crowded and its search is not always working… so this post might save people some time. The gadget I’ve chosen are good looking and will sit well on your desktop.
Here we go:
